Searle Bros. Construction Co. is an earthwork solution specialist with over 50 years of experience in the oil and gas and mining industries. The company was formed in 1965 by brothers Miles “Con” and George Searle in Vernal, Utah. Shortly after purchasing their first D7 Caterpillar the pair moved their business and families to Wyoming. The company set up shop in Rock Springs in 1972, where it is still family owned and operated.
Today the company employs roughly 60 hard working men and women and completes civil engineering projects throughout Southwest Wyoming and the surrounding area.
Brothers, Con and George Searle cut their teeth in some of the roughest country around, growing up on their family ranch just north of Vernal, Utah. Con had a knack for finding work and George knew everything there was to know about running equipment, so it was only a matter of time before the two brothers teamed up to form Searle Bros. Construction Co. in 1967 when they bought their first D7 Cat in Roosevelt, Utah. While the smaller projects on the nearby farms kept the brothers busy for the first year, they had their sights set on something much bigger. In 1968 the oil and gas boom was just starting to take off in Wyoming, so Con and George packed up their lives and headed north. After a short time in Gillette, Wyoming the brothers caught wind of work in the Southwest corner of the state in a tiny town called Point of Rocks. Con and George were well-versed in building locations for drilling companies and they quickly earned the reputation as one of the fastest and most reliable dirt contractors in the area. The wild country and brutal climate of Southwestern Wyoming proved too difficult for many contractors who came and went, but there was nothing that George and Con couldn’t figure out when it came to building locations. The Searle Bros. name quickly became synonymous with “getting the job done, no matter what.”
As business continued to boom, George and Con hired more hands and they were able to purchase a fleet of equipment ranging from dozers to drilling rigs and scrapers. Over the next few years they would set up two shops, one in Rock Springs and the other in Evanston, to service the entire southwestern corner of the state. Today, their headquarters is still in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
In 1993, Con passed away suddenly. Since then, Con’s wife, Nellie, has taken the reins and brought the company to new heights with the help of her three children. Over the years the company has grown from just two brothers and a shovel to now employing more than 60 people. Despite the growth of the company, the values that Con and George founded the company on more than 50 years ago are still alive and well. Doing a quality job in a way that is efficient and fair has always been, and continues to be, a priority. Dirt has always been more of a lifestyle than a job and with their roots running deep in the Rocky Mountain region, the company looks forward to servicing the community for years to come.
